Strawberry Farms

Picture
Strawberry Farms. For many Malaysians, the usual place we see strawberries are in hypermarkets and some supermarkets. Rarely do Malaysians have a chance of walking up to each red juicy fruit and plucking them with their own hands except here in Cameron Highlands. The right temperature and climate allow for cultivation of strawberries, and many farms operate here either for export or to cater for the local tourism.

There are quite a number of Strawberry farms in Cameron highlands located across Ringlet to Tanah Rata, Brinchang, Tringkap and beyond. Generally the Strawberry farms here are free to enter, browse, have your picture taken. You may also pay a small fee to go in to pluck your own strawberries. Most strawberry farms operate in similar manner, so you may pick any which is closer for your convenience.

Feel free to ask the local assistants on choosing the strawberries, as some are sour in taste rather than the usual sweetness. Apart from plucking your strawberry, you may also opt to enjoy strawberry flavored desserts from cakes to ice creams.

For those who missed the chance or lack the time to visit the individual strawberry farms in Cameron Highlands, you will still have to opportunity to purchase Strawberries that are sold aplenty at the morning market in Brinchang / Kea Farm and the Night Market in Brinchang,

Prices of strawberries sold in markets tend to be cheaper than the ones sold at the farm, reason being the ones sold at the market are very ripe. So unless you plan to make your own strawberry jam, you should purchase for consumption within 1 to 2 days at the most.

3.       The strawberries are part of the Rose family that emits the sweet aroma which attracts us to it.

4.       For every strawberry fruit there are about 200 tiny seeds.

5.       And contrary to popular belief, the sweet red flesh of the strawberry is not the fruit. It is a part of the flower called the receptacle that is located below the ovary. The receptacle swells to attract animals so that they will eat and scatter the true fruit. These are the small yellow seed-like parts, which is a dry fruit called an achene
